REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST -2010





  


 “Bio shield” Program by IGCAR

Bio Shield” program is a program initiated by IGCAR along with TSA (The Science Ashram- Odisha). After the furious disaster, caused by tsunami, at kalpakkam coastal area. The rehabilitation and livelihood program as well as sustainable coastal developmental need was felt, Keeping the view ''Converting a catastrophe in to an opportunity''. The rehabilitation project was initiated, not only to protect against tsunami or natural disaster but also produce nutrients. Salt tolerant plants such as mangroves, spinifex,  salicornia, ipomea, salvadora, jatropha, castor, simarouba, custard apple calophylium are grown at sea shore at kalpakkam.
          The schematic of bio-shield provides at kalpakkam in a scientific way with engineering inputs how wind, sand and wave velocities have been taken care, Bio-shield creates economical, medicinal, bio diversity and environmental safety benefit to the local.
Hope foundation School was chosen as one of the location to implement the above project. On 3rd  August 2010, Shri Y C MANJUNATHA, Director , ESG, IGCAR (Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research), Kalpakkam inaugurated the Bio shield project at our school.

Dr.C. Ananda Babu, (Head, STC, FRTG, IGCAR), who heads the “Bio shield” program briefed the students about the importance of protecting the environment during the school assembly. 

 Mr. Pranaya Kumar Biswal- supervisor (TSA) supervised the planting program. The guests, children and teachers everybody was involved in the planting. 150 plants were planted in the school campus. Primary section children were assigned a plant each to look after.
 Independence day  Celebrations

On 15th August Sunday the Independence day was celebrated. All the children assembled in the school at 7; 30 am, they were very happy to display their national flags on their uniforms. The program started with prayer song, there after children gave speech in Tamil and English about the Independence of India, about the great heroes of India. Dr.C, Ananda babu spoke to the children about the life of our former president of India Dr. A. P. J . Abdul Kalam and he encouraged the children to dream big. The program came to an end with vote of thanks and National Anthem. Sweets were distributed to children. 
 Volunteer activities

Great Lakes Institute of management is located around five km away from the HOPE foundation school. It is one of the top B-schools in India and in the global arena.
Karma Yoga in Hope school:
The Great Lakes students in a span of 5 months have conducted various programs at “HOPE foundation school Pudupattinam.
  • Conducted and organized sport activities for kids from classes first to fifth.
  • Developed the school web site for promotional schemes and updated and designed the blog of HOPE school  Pudipattinam.
  • Created a database of students with their photographs and details for  identification and administrative purposes
  • Promoted the “Sponsor a Child” project using various sources like corporate sponsors using social media and networking
  • Talked to students and took videos about their aspirations, educational experience, their likes and dislikes etc. and more importantly
  • Guided children to make them think about their dreams with the support of audio/visual aids and showed motivational videos of local prodigies to inspire the students.

SCHOOL ANNUAL DAY

The school annual day was celebrated on 23rd April at HOPE community Hall. Mr. Steel, Asst. MD and Mrs.Padma Venkatraman were the guests for the event. Celebrations were started with the welcome dance

NEW ADMISSIONS

The new academic year began with lot of enthusiasm. The school re-opened on 7th of June. The children came to school with lot of excitement. The assembly began with special prayers and welcome. The class teachers arranged warm reception for their children.

The children from five surrounding villages were admitted to the school. Each and every child’s parents were met individually counseled about upbringing the children, health and hygiene, food habits and the requirements of the school.

NEW CLASS ROOM

Shekar Construction Company built a new class room for our school. Mr. Shekar, Proprietor of Shekar Construction Company inaugurated the new class room for 3rd standard. He also distributed sweets for the students.

Teacher’s Training

Two days Teachers orientation and training program were conducted by MILESTONES. The training was on Montessori Method of learning.

Teachers’ meeting was conducted on the last working day of the month. Power point presentations on corporal punishment were shown. They prepared the syllabus for the next month they were also updated on the staff policies.

Volunteers Activities

· People visited the school

Helping Hands:

The Young volunteers from IGCAR (Helping Hands) -visited the school and interacted with the children. They also provided Text books, Note books and uniforms for the 20 needy children of the school. One of the volunteer from “Helping Hands” engaged the children with amusing art.

Community development Program Report

NYK Youth Corps Training


On 1st to 10th June Nehuru Yuva Kendra (NYK) organised a training camp for the Youth leaders at HOPE foundation school .26 Young NYK leaders from 13 different blocks of kancheepuram district participated the training program. Residential Training program lead by Mr. Sudhagar, coordinator NYK, kancheepuram. Training sessions were conducted by various NGO representatives. Participants empowered form NYK groups and conduct various social activities. Traing program was councluded by the validetery function on 10th June, Mr......, deputy Director, NYK gave the vote of thanks.


Medical Clinic Report

Medical Camp

Jayabalan 50 years old, fisherman, sole bread winner for the family of four, had stroke while he was fishing since then he is not gone for fishing..................

Selvi 45years old, mother of four boys met with an accident and had wound in the leg, due to infection in her right leg. It was amputed.................

They both had blood sugar but the not aware of the fact that they were diabetic!!

To create awareness about blood sugar among the fishermen community, On 29th Saturday Accenture, Chennai along with the HOPE foundation organised a free blood sugar testing camp for the community members of Pudupattinam and Uyyalikuppam fishermen hamlets. Children from village welcomed the volunteers from Accenture.

The camp started at 7 am at the HOPE Primary Health Centre ( uyyalikuppam) , Paramedical staff and Volunteers from Accenture helped the community members to register themselves for collecting blood and Urine samples for test. 235 tests were conducted for the 73 community people and 17 patients were diagnosed with blood sugar. All those who tested positive have consulted the doctor for further treatment.We are thankful to volunteers and management of accenture , Chennai for organising the free medical camp for the underprivileged.
